Summary/Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic has become a challenge not only for the states themselves, but also for sub-state actors. It was the regions and cities that were on the front lines of the fight against the coronavirus. They had to face not only the challenges of the pandemic, but also the obstacles generated by the indifference and lack of a timely enough response from the central governments in their states. The chapter aims to present and analyze selected examples of the activities of cities and regions during the COVID-19 pandemic. They were specifically selected to include areas from countries with different geographic locations and varied levels of economic development, as well as to show the widest cross-section of their activities and initiatives.
