Art as a Tool Shaping One’s Self‑Consciousness

Summary/Abstract: The article is the author’s personal report concerning her own artistic project, which sherealised with the participation of female prisoners of the penal institution in Lubliniec, convictedof murder and sentenced to imprisonment. Before the exhibition of the participants’ works, en-titled Secrets, took place in Rondo Sztuki in Katowice on 09.03.2011, the author of the articlehad completed 20 rehabilitative creative workshops with these women, during which she — per-forming the role of a teacher-artist — invited them to engage themselves in a creative activityregarding the ‘human — space — objects’ theme. Currently, rehabilitation by means of artisticactivities is becoming more and more popular. According to the author, art may indeed becomea tool for shaping one’s self-consciousness.
