Summary/Abstract: The uniqueness of Harbin, which is the consequence of the Polish diaspora in the region, has been frequently analysed. The growing migration between Poland and China, tourist and economic enterprises and an interest in learning Polish in China contribute to searching for what is common to build mutual understanding by learning history and culture both countries share. Talking about Polish history in Manchuria is also “claiming rights” – as the popular stereotype in the world and in China has Harbin as a Russian city. The author deliberates to what extent the phenomenon of Harbin, a city with traces of Polish citizens, can be an impulse that will prompt the development of Polish studies there.
