Summary/Abstract: This paper deals with the translation of cultural references in Alexandru Vlahuta’s book “România pitorească”. Indeed, this work is full of culture-specific items that require special attention and appropriate translation strategies to preserve all the linguistic savor of the source text. This translation, carried out by Margarita Miller-Verghy – one of the few Romanian women translators –, will be analyzed in order to study the difficulties raised by the translation of those realia and the solutions provided. In the same way, we will show to what extent the cultural boundaries are permeable.
