Summary/Abstract: The book W głąb i w dal Ja. O poezji Mickiewicza i Słowackiego [Into and away I. About the poetry of Mickiewicz and Słowacki] is an attempt to outline the imagination of Polish Romanticism. The description of this imagination has been done on two levels. At the first level, the important themes of Romantic poetry (focused around two centres – Being and Subjectivity) are analysed from the perspective of poetic imagination, whose modified and developed instrumentarium made it possible to study diverse and complex issues. At the second level, this study of Romantic themes has made it possible to extract and describe the essential and individual features of the Romantic imagination itself. The first part of the book (Ja w przestrzeniach Bytu [I in the Spaces of Being]) examines and describes the stable (metaphysical) and dynamic models of being in Słowacki's and Mickiewicz's poetry. This phenomenology of romantic Being is complemented by the interpretation of evil – as the second, dark side of Being – in Mickiewicz's poetry. The second part (Przestrzenie Ja [Spaces of I]) contains the identification and description of non-standard models of Romantic subjectivity, going beyond the previous approaches. The focus is on the interpretation of the late poetry of Mickiewicz and Słowacki. The whole is complemented by analyses of the inner world and shapes of Romantic mystical poetry.
