Summary/Abstract: The monograph contains a coherent description of the functioning of three French prepositions de, à and en, which belong to the group of neutral prepositions, i.e. polysemic enough that reaching the meaning is based on the relational function in the context. These prepositions com-pete with one other and with other prepositions in expressing the same relations between the same objects, eg. aller en France / à Paris / dans la France de son enfance / dans Paris; continu-er à faire / continuer de faire; parler à / de / avec; de plus / en plus. Their functioning in a sim-ple or contracted form is also problematic, due to the presence of an article, eg aller à Paris / au Portugal; s’échapper de prison / de la prison.
