Summary/Abstract: The level of social capital is one of the important factors conditioning sustainable and multi-function development of European and Polish rural areas. The LEADER approach plays an important role in developing this capital. All “editions” of this programme in Poland have contributed to creating and developing territorial partnerships described as Local Action Groups (LAGs). Despite the fact that these structures are still fairly new, they are expected to exert considerable impact on the development of Polish rural areas.
