Summary/Abstract: The main goal of this monograph is to present the complex economic, social, and ethnic processes occurring in the areas along the Volga River. The work presents events occurring from the Paleolithic period to the conquest and subjugation of Volga Bulgaria by Vasily II. This monograph is addressed to a wide audience interested in the social and economic development of Russia, particularly the territories along the Volga and its tributaries. The creation of this work was dictated by the desire to present a broad spectrum of social, economic, and ethnic processes shaping the individual areas along the Volga, Kama, Vyatka, and other tributaries of this largest Russian and European river.
