Summary/Abstract: The eleventh volume of the academic series 'OderÜbersetzen' is devoted to translation in and for the theatre – understood as a space for the transfer of language, culture and experience. The publication documents the most significant developments of recent years in the Polish-German translation community, combining academic reflection with an analysis of translation and theatre practice. The central section of the volume comprises texts on the translation of plays, multilingualism on stage, and theatre as a medium of memory and social intervention. The authors analyse, amongst other things, contemporary migrant theatre in Germany (Eliza Szymańska), strategies for translating ancient plays and contemporary reinterpretations of antiquity (Jacek Kaduczak), as well as the issue of representing the Holocaust in theatre and art (Krzysztof Tkaczyk). The volume also contains literary translations of previously unpublished works, interviews with theatre professionals and translators, and articles based on the holdings of the Karl Dedecius Archive, devoted, amongst other things, to collections relating to Wisława Szymborska and the history of the translation of Stanisław Wyspiański’s 'Wesele' ('The Wedding'). Also worthy of special attention are: an extensive article by Karol Sauerland on the relationship between Zbigniew Herbert and Karl Dedecius, as well as texts by Edward Balcerzan on the art of translation and by Aleksander Fiut on Czesław Miłosz, both previously unpublished in German. The eleventh volume of 'OderÜbersetzen' is a multi-voiced publication presenting translation as an artistic, social and cultural experience. It makes for inspiring reading for researchers, translators and anyone interested in contemporary translation studies and theatre.
