- Author(s):Francesco Perpolli

- Subject(s):Language and Literature Studies, Philology
- Page Range:59-74
- No. of Pages:16
- Keywords:Italianisms; loanwords; BCMS; Venetian; Istria; lexical borrowing; language contact; Balkans; historical linguistics
- Summary/Abstract:This article explores the extensive presence of Italian lexical borrowings—Italianisms—within the BCMS (Bosnian, Croatian, Montenegrin, and Serbian) language area, focusing on their historical development, structural features, and regional variations. The study begins with a broad overview of loanwords in BCMS, emphasizing their diverse origins, including Turkish, German, Hungarian, Greek, and French influences. The core analysis then examines Italianisms, classifying them into Venetianisms, Tuscanisms, cultural Italianisms, and new cultural Italianisms. Special attention is given to the spoken vernacular of Istria, a historically multilingual and multiethnic region where the interaction between Venetian dialects and local Slavic languages has resulted in unique linguistic phenomena. Drawing from documented examples and personal experience, the article highlights the complex assimilation process of Italianisms, questioning whether they can be treated as a homogeneous category. By analysing phonetic and morphological adaptations, as well as the socio-historical factors shaping linguistic influence, this study aims to contribute to a more nuanced understanding of lexical borrowing in the Balkans and the intricate legacy of Italian linguistic influence.

- Keywords:L2; Gamification; Slavic languages; Video games; Education; Minecraft; MMOG; RPG; Foreign language
- Summary/Abstract:This article explores gamification and how it can be used to create educational materials for learning a foreign language, specifically a Slavic language, by turning a video game into a teaching aid. All Slavic languages except Montenegrin, have video games in their language. Gamification positively impacts vocabulary learning, well-being, and motivation. However, its biggest drawback is the limited ability to teach grammar, so it should be seen as a supplement rather than a replacement for traditional language learning. For now, Polish and Russian are the most popular slavic languages in video games, and therefore, they are best options for gamificated learning of foreign language.

- Author(s):Julia Głombik
- Language:Polish
- Subject(s):Language and Literature Studies, Philology
- Page Range:135-143
- No. of Pages:9
- Keywords:Isak Samokovlija; onirism; polifonic character construction; Motif of longing suffering and memory
- Summary/Abstract:The article analyzes the role of onirism in Isak Samokovlija’s short story Crveni đurđin, focusing on how the boundary between dream and reality shapes the narrative. The analysis emphasizes the oniric construction of the protagonist Idriz, whose character emerges gradually through the perspective of the narrator. Idriz, his home, garden, and family members are depicted in an almost dreamlike atmosphere of mystery, beauty, and harmony, which is later disrupted by the revelation of his tragic love story with Malka and the symbol of the red dahlias (Crveni đurđin), representing memory, love and loss. The story intertwines subjective perception, symbolic imagery and multiple narrative voices, culminating in a contrast between the narrator’s idealized vision of Idriz and the townspeople’s view of him as a madman. This polifonic structure questions truth, memory, and the reliability of narration, making Crveni đurđin a rich example of how onirism can serve as both a literary technique and a philosophical reflection on human experience.

- Summary/Abstract:In the independent state of Lithuanians, a small Baltic nation, the two largest national minorities were Slavic groups – Poles and Russians. Attempts to protect the Lithuanian language and to rewrite the history of Lithuania caused disputes over the right to use one’s own surname and the use of language by minorities. The similar position of the two largest minorities was a common denominator, abstracting from the relations between the two nations in the international arena. Numerous pro-Russian statements by representatives of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania are a controversial topic, especially in a country so afraid of Russian aggression.
