Summary/Abstract: The main part of the monograph is a translation of the short story "Unter Tage" (1937, “Underground”) by the Upper Silesian writer Josef Wiessalla (1898–1945). The story presents a harrowing picture of a mining disaster that occurred in January 1932 in Bytom's oldest, now closed, known as mine "Karsten-Zentrum". The dialogues have been translated into Silesian. The text of the translation is preceded by an extensive chapter on the author's profile and work, as well as a commentary on the translation. The monograph also includes a glossary of difficult (regional) mining terms, a bibliography and illustrations.
