- Summary/Abstract:This paper considers how competing worldviews, rooted in an underlying schism between business and humanities understanding of economics, increasingly shape AI advancements, their use, and the implications for the experiences of justice in society. The schism emerged during the mid-19th century as classical economics (originating around Adam Smith’s The Wealth of Nations) developed into the utility-based, ahistorical Marginalist Revolution, which prioritized efficiency and quantitative models (now dominant in business and management education), and the dialectical-based, historical Marxist Revolution (underlying the assumptions of theorists in the Humanities and many social sciences). These reflect deeper ideological tensions: a focus on objective optimization and AI-driven decision-making versus a commitment to subjective autonomy and the preservation of human agency. We discuss “justice experiences”, a wide range of events ranging from actions in the judicial/legal system to personal and social impressions of, and expressions for, what is just. While AI promises to reduce costs and accelerate resolutions across civil disputes, criminal cases, and broader social justice concerns, automation risks deepening economic and legal inequalities. Further, the issue of alienation from the production of justice suggests another bifurcation: those who have lower incomes and few assets might only be provided with AI-generated resolutions, with traditional lawyers and court proceedings available only to the wealthiest. Beyond supply, this may increase demand for justice experiences, potentially widening the gap between what justice people receive and what they believe they deserve, and lead to exacerbating, and not reducing, social justice issues.

- Summary/Abstract:Artificial intelligence (AI) has substantially transformed the digital marketing landscape. Marketers continue to rely on advanced algorithms and data-driven insights to create effective marketing campaigns. Future trends indicate that marketers will rely increasingly on Generative AI and AI integration (What’s Next in CX, n.d.) to enhance customer experience through targeted marketing and highly personalized content. As AI progresses, it becomes increasingly important to consider the ethical concerns of using it in marketing. Researchers have highlighted significant ethical concerns about consumer manipulation, discrimination, and data privacy (Davenport et al., 2020, 30). This research investigates the ethical consequences, particularly analyzing how AI-driven techniques such as predictive modeling and digital nudging might influence customer decisions (Demandbase, 2024). It explores the way in which AI algorithms can exploit consumer vulnerabilities and potentially override rational decision-making processes. Based on the findings from current research and industry trends, the paper proposes an ethical framework for AI in digital marketing, emphasizing transparency, consumer autonomy, and the preservation of human agency (Clark, 2024). Furthermore, this research emphasizes the need to ensure that AI technologies are as a constructive force in marketing that not only protects consumer rights but also retains societal value.

- Summary/Abstract:With the evolution of artificial intelligence, numerous transformations are occurring across various fields, including journalism worldwide. These changes have also influenced the media landscape in the Balkan region. This study analyzes the impact of artificial intelligence on journalists and media in the Western Balkans, providing a clear overview of the advantages and challenges posed using new technologies in content creation, news reporting, and newsroom operations. The main advantages include data analysis, increased speed in news publication, real-time information accessibility, and automation of routine tasks. However, there are also significant challenges and risks, such as the spread of misinformation, dependence on algorithms, and, most critically, job displacement for journalists as AI gradually replaces them, a trend already observed in some media outlets in Albania. This study aims to explore how artificial intelligence is driving these changes. Through an empirical approach and case study analysis, it also seeks to propose strategies for leveraging AI in a sustainable and ethically responsible manner in journalism. The study also includes an in-depth analysis based on the questionnaire regarding how media outlets and journalists in the Western Balkans understand the importance of artificial intelligence in streamlining processes and also in reducing costs through its use. This study provides results on how journalists are integrating artificial intelligence with specific tools to achieve higher efficiency in their work, particularly in content and news production.

- Summary/Abstract:Despite extensive research on labor market programs, there is limited information on the effectiveness of current unemployment schemes targeting disadvantaged job seekers. A literature review reveals that labor market programs are generally viewed positively, with employment services deemed effective in terms of their impact on the unemployed or cost-effectiveness. This study examines the effectiveness of labor market programs implemented in the Slovak Republic from 2019 to 2023. These programs aimed either to create job opportunities directly or to provide counselling services to the long-term unemployed. The analysis utilized data from the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Family, and the Office for Employment and Social Affairs, focusing on unemployed individuals who participated in programs targeting disadvantaged job seekers. Based on propensity score matching, participants in the programs were compared with non-participants during the specified period. The findings indicate that participation in a program does not affect the duration of long-term unemployment, which is primarily influenced by education and residence. However, the selected programs demonstrated a positive impact on participants, particularly in the long term.

- Summary/Abstract:The concept of entropy, central to thermodynamics, can be applied to social systems to understand societal stability and collapse. This paper explores how social entropy, driven by increasing disorder and randomness, mirrors the lifecycle of societies from establishment to decline. Punishment and mercy are crucial elements in this context, balancing societal order and compassion. Punishment deters undesirable behaviors, ensures justice, and maintains order, while mercy humanizes justice, fostering social cohesion and rehabilitation. However, the implementation of punishment is complex, involving challenges like proportionality, consistency, effectiveness, and ethical considerations. Psychological aversion to punishment, rooted in the fear of pain, complicates its application, leading to resistance, demands for leniency, and public perception issues. Mercy, defined as compassion or forgiveness towards someone within one's power to punish, plays a critical role in tempering justice with empathy. The paper categorizes mercy into four types based on personality: balanced, narcissistic, self-flagellating, and psychopathic, each influencing societal dynamics and law enforcement differently. A balanced approach to punishment and mercy is essential for maintaining social stability. Excessive mercy, however, can lead to social stratification, lawlessness, undermining deterrence, and eroding public trust. The concept of "narcissistic empathy," a self-serving form of empathy, can impact legal outcomes and societal trust in the justice system. Achieving a nuanced and adaptive balance between punishment and mercy is crucial for sustaining a just and cohesive society, where both justice and compassion are upheld. This balance helps societies counteract the natural progression towards disorder, ensuring long-term stability and harmony.

- Summary/Abstract:The increasing reliance on digital infrastructure and rapid expansion of cloud computing have significantly amplified cybersecurity risks. Although technical solutions to these challenges are being developed, the ethical implications of these risks are often overlooked. This study investigates the ethical dimensions of modern cybersecurity challenges, particularly in the context of high-profile cyberattacks such as SolarWinds (2020), Colonial Pipeline (2021), and the Log4j vulnerability (2021). These incidents underscore the moral responsibilities of organizations in securing their software supply chains, protecting personal data, and mitigating the broader social impact of cybercrime. This paper explores the role of ethical frameworks, such as deontological ethics, utilitarianism, and virtue ethics, in shaping cybersecurity policies and proposes actionable recommendations for integrating these ethical principles into cybersecurity strategies. By examining these threats through an ethical lens, this study aims to provide actionable insights for organizations, policymakers, and cybersecurity professionals to create more responsible and resilient digital environments.

- Summary/Abstract:This study aims to enrich the current literature on the transformation of the budgetary process by generative AI. We developed a business plan and budget for an online real estate platform. Using the case method, we compared both the usual tools (Desk Research on internet and hypothesis formulation and modeling using Microsoft Excel) and generative AI-based tools (Market research, Hypothesis fine-tuning and modeling). Our results suggest that while ChatGPT is time-effective in terms of market research, data analysis, and presentation, there is room for improvement in terms of data modeling in comparison with Microsoft Excel. The current version of ChatGPT is not mature and robust enough to be relied on to produce high-quality forecasts and modeling.

- Summary/Abstract:Public service motivation is a key component that ensures laws are implemented and enforced effectively. Fortunately, it is challenging to enforce the legislation and persuade companies to comply due to the differences in the motivations of civil servants. Through the use of meta-analysis methodologies, this study seeks to determine the components of public service motivation in the enforcement of law compliance by civil servants. Following a qualitative analysis, six elements of public service motivation in enforcement of law compliance by civil servants can be identified: (1) Attraction to Policy Making, (2) Commitment to the Public Interest, (3) Social Justice, (4) Civic Duty, (5) Compassion, and (6) Self-Sacrifice. The findings of this research demonstrate the significant influence of Public Service Motivation (PSM) on law enforcement activities. This implies that strengthening law enforcement procedures, refining current policies, and increasing compliance can be achieved by enhancing PSM among officers.

- Summary/Abstract:This paper investigates the link between Business Ethics and Quality Management. Business Ethics as a management practice is well rooted in many organizations, but its contribution to quality management implementation programs and practices is not well documented. The ISO 9000:2015 standard and the Business Excellence frameworks and awards provide a basis for the implementation of a Total Quality Management (TQM) philosophy, which is a distinctive approach to improving organizational performance and attaining competitive advantage. The main purpose of this paper is to examine various issues related to Business Ethics, including corporate citizenship, human rights, environmental protection, consumer protection, occupational health and safety, dishonest business practices (such as corruption, idleness, and weave problems), and investigate the relationship to Total Quality Management in an MNC operating in Greece. The data gathering was carried out through extensive and in-depth interviews with multiple informants, including the plant manager, the production manager, and the personnel manager, utilizing a semi-structured questionnaire with open-ended questions. The goal was to collect data and produce basic information, enabling qualitative observations concerning organizations’ Quality and Business Ethics programs and initiatives.

- Summary/Abstract:This paper, as part of a PhD dissertation, outlines the need and methodology for additional survey-based research to better understand the real and practical aspects of what motivates university employees and the underlying values of these employees that affect their performance. It explores how the alignment of these values align with the values of the institution are also relevant in the way the performance of the employees enhances the performance of the institution. The methodology and survey reflect trends in higher education, such as: the inclusion of Undergraduate Medical Schools; societal changes stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic that affect employee motivation and values due to the re-prioritization of health concerns, remote work options and work life integration/balance; inclusive workplace issues; and especially within the education sphere - whether the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has influenced staff motivation and values. The survey contains motivation and values sections and was completed by Georgian American University (GAU) staff and lecturers. Although not included in this paper, AI will be used to "analyze" the survey results and "create" a relevant (and usable) menu of performance incentives to match each employee or set of employees that will then also enhance the values and performance of the institution.

- Summary/Abstract:The origins of Maltese migration to Corfu go back to the first half of the 19th century, when Sir Thomas Maitland was appointed Governor of Malta on July 23, 1813. A couple of years later, in 1815, the Greek Ionian Islands were declared a British protectorate, and consequently, Maitland was appointed Lord High Commissioner for the Ionian Islands, which included Corfu, Paxos, Cephalonia, Lefkas, Ithaca, Zakynthos, and Cythera. Maitland continued to serve as Governor of Malta until January 17, 1824. Corfu, on the other hand, remained under the protection of the British Crown until 1864. Since Corfu was quite poorly developed, Maitland encouraged Maltese inhabitants to migrate to Ionian Islands and help build the infrastructure there. The scope of this paper is to identify, through the documentation contained in the Corfu Archives, the first Maltese people whose presence was recorded on the Greek island, how they got there from Malta, and other relevant information. According to the certificates of clean bill of health in possession of the Historical Archive of Corfu, in the 1816-1830 period, the number of people leaving Malta for Corfu included 81 men, 18 women, 23 boys under the age of 14, 5 girls under the age of 14, and 9 infants, whose age was not specified. The paper will also show that, unlike in Sicily or Tunisia, where Maltese typically normally married amongst themselves in the first years of migration, in Corfu, it was much more common for Maltese to marry foreigners.

- Summary/Abstract:This research explores the effects of artificial intelligence (AI) on the labor market across various regions of China, using provincial-level data from 2006 to 2022. To address issues of reverse causality and ensure analytical accuracy, a fixed-effects distributed lag model is employed. The study investigates three key dimensions: total employment, wages, and employment across different skill levels. COVID-19 indicators are included to account for policy changes and economic fluctuations. The results reveal a relationship between the rising adoption of AI and employment opportunities for low- to medium-skilled workers; however, high-skill occupations appear less affected. Evidence also suggests that the integration of AI technologies influences wages, consistent with the assumptions of skill-biased technological change (SBTC). These findings provide empirical confirmation of the disruptive impact of AI on the Chinese labor market, offering insight into how technological advancement affects employment in emerging economies. The study offers guidance for policymakers and corporate leaders addressing labor challenges in an AI-driven economy.

- Summary/Abstract:This study employs public choice theory to analyze how the interplay of geopolitical aspirations and domestic interest-group competition shaped economic transition policies in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) following the collapse of socialism. Focusing on Poland and Hungary (1989–2004), the research examines how political elites balanced demands for rapid EU and NATO integration against rent-seeking behaviors by domestic actor, such as former nomenklatura networks, emerging oligarchs, and labor unions, during privatization and market liberalization. The study argues that the urgency to “rejoin Europe” geopolitically created perverse incentives, enabling elites to prioritize symbolic compliance with Western institutions over equitable institutional reforms. Findings reveal that privatization schemes often served as tools for consolidating political patronage rather than fostering competitive markets, while fiscal policies accommodated both EU austerity mandates and localized clientelism. This duality produced hybrid economic systems characterized by formal neoliberal frameworks and informal crony capitalist practices. The research challenges narratives of CEE transitions as purely technocratic successes, instead highlighting how public choice dynamics entrenched inequalities that persist in contemporary debates over democratic backsliding and EU cohesion. By integrating the history of economic thought with international relations theory, this work contributes to interdisciplinary debates on the political economy of post-socialist transitions and offers cautionary insights for states navigating geopolitical pressures amid institutional fragility.

- Summary/Abstract:After the high-profile killing of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, in 2014, and subsequent high-profile police shootings started to be covered extensively by American media outlets, more attention has been focused on police militarization and the warrior mindset among officers. Many training academies now adopt a guardian approach instead of a warrior mentality approach for their trainees’ socialization and culture. While the warrior cop versus guardian police debate continues, evidence has begun to emerge indicating that police executives and training academy directors have made a shift from high-stress military training to a lower-stress training environment since these shootings occurred. Recent research focuses on the root causes of racial tensions, police use of force, and racial profiling. In contrast, the current study sought to fill the gap in the literature by uncovering whether the police have made positive changes in response to these shootings. The United States Bureau of Justice Statistics disseminated self-report questionnaires to police academies in 2011 and then again in 2022 using the same questionnaire. These data are used to develop an explanation of the culture surrounding police training and to examine the shift in the prevalence of academies abandoning the high-stress militarized training approach following the 2014 shooting.

- Summary/Abstract:This study explores the introduction of Overnight Index Swaps (OIS) to the Moroccan financial market. OIS are financial derivatives that involve the exchange of fixed interest rate payments for floating payments linked to an overnight index, and they are widely used for interest rate risk management. The primary goal of this research is to assess the feasibility and potential impact of OIS in Morocco through a thorough analysis of their characteristics, benefits, and the regulatory environment. A detailed examination of OIS reveals their potential advantages for Moroccan businesses and financial institutions, including improved interest rate risk management and increased liquidity. The study also evaluates the current regulatory framework in Morocco, assessing its readiness to support the introduction of OIS, and identifies key market participants and their needs for such financial instruments. To provide insights into market dynamics and future trends, the study employs quantitative models such as ARIMA (Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average), SARIMA (Seasonal ARIMA), and the Simple Moving Average (SMA) method. These models are used to analyze historical interest rate data, identify patterns, and forecast future movements, thereby aiding in understanding the potential impact of OIS on the Moroccan market. The findings suggest that OIS could significantly enhance risk management practices and contribute to market stability in Morocco. By providing effective hedging against interest rate volatility, OIS can reduce financial uncertainty for institutions and corporations. Additionally, the introduction of OIS could attract more foreign investment and stimulate the growth of Morocco's financial derivatives market.

- Keywords:Social Media; Identity; Digital Addiction; Manipulation; Mental Health; Anxiety; Depression;
- Summary/Abstract:This article explores the multifaceted psychological, sociological, and cognitive dangers that social media poses to human well-being. Drawing on recent interdisciplinary research, it identifies seven key areas of concern: identity fragmentation, loneliness, and social isolation, anxiety and depression, social media addiction, social comparison, and self-esteem erosion, manipulation through algorithmic systems, diminished attention and cognitive performance. The analysis reveals how social media, while offering unprecedented connectivity, simultaneously fosters behaviors and mental states that undermine individual and societal health. Heavy users often experience dissonance between their curated digital personas and their offline realities, leading to identity confusion and distress. Similarly, constant exposure to idealized content fosters unrealistic comparisons, which correlate with depressive symptoms and anxiety. Algorithmic personalization compounds these effects by reinforcing cognitive biases and promoting compulsive usage patterns. Additionally, the fragmented structure of digital content consumption has been linked to a reduction in attention span and critical thinking ability. Despite its positive affordance, the paper concludes that social media is a double-edged tool requiring conscious use, policy intervention, and educational strategies to mitigate its risks. Recommendations include digital literacy education, platform-level design changes, and regulatory oversight alongside personal practices that foster mindfulness and authenticity in online engagement. The study contributes to the ongoing discourse on technology’s impact on human identity, behavior, and societal structure, advocating for a balanced and ethically responsible digital culture.

- Summary/Abstract:Popular music has long served as a mirror reflecting societal anxieties, particularly during political uncertainty, technological change, and environmental distress. This paper explores apocalyptic and eschatological themes in late 20th-century popular music. It analyzes how musicians across various genres—punk, metal, hip-hop, and pop—incorporated imagery of global catastrophe, existential fear, and societal collapse into their work. By examining musical techniques, lyrical content, and historical context, this research highlights the persistent influence of apocalyptic narratives in shaping cultural perceptions of crisis. From Cold War tensions to contemporary concerns about artificial intelligence and climate change, apocalyptic music remains a powerful artistic expression of collective fears. This study demonstrates how such music transcends mere entertainment, functioning as a cultural barometer for global anxieties and influencing public discourse on pressing social and political issues.

- Summary/Abstract:This article is an attempt to see how the concept of ecodomy can be used in intercultural education to demonstrate how the idea of ecodomy can be applied to various domains of interest to tertiary education, especially to public universities from the perspective of two intercultural contexts, such as Western settings and their African counterparts. Particularly, the concept of ecodomy will be treated as a pedagogical instrument in both these contexts since it is related to the activity of teaching theology and religion as humanistic sciences, although I argue that the concept itself, as well as its content, should not be restricted to humanistic sciences alone. The purpose of using the concept of ecodomy as a pedagogical instrument in intercultural education is to see if it can fit within the field of intercultural education, and specifically in intercultural pedagogy.

- Keywords:Criminal Trial; Criminal Prosecution; Fundamental Principles; Non-Public Character; Adversarial Proceedings; Written Form; Hierarchical Subordination; Obligation Principle; Human Rights;
- Summary/Abstract:This paper explores, within a theoretical and normative framework, the specific principles governing the criminal prosecution phase of the criminal trial, underlining its essential role in ensuring the balance between the efficiency of criminal justice and the protection of the fundamental rights of the individual. The paper focuses on the criminal prosecution phase, identifying its specific principles. The non-public nature of this phase is justified by the need to protect the integrity of evidence, prevent the influence of witnesses, and guarantee the presumption of innocence. Exceptions, such as the lawyer’s right to access the file, are critically analyzed, underlining the tension between transparency and efficiency. The lack of adversarial proceedings is presented as an inherent feature of criminal prosecution, where the prosecutor acts unilaterally, unlike the trial phase, which is based on adversarial debates. The paper insists on the interdependence of principles as pillars of the rule of law, concluding that any derogation from them risks compromising not only the validity of procedural acts but also public trust in the legal system.

- Summary/Abstract:Preventing and combating juvenile crime is a constant concern in modern criminal justice systems. In Romania, the Criminal Procedure Code distinctly regulates the application of preventive measures against minors, taking into account the specific nature of this category of perpetrators. In the context of a constantly changing society, in which minors are increasingly exposed to negative influences and risks of a criminal nature, the issue of their preventive application on them acquires particular importance in the criminal process. The Romanian criminal justice system, aligned with international standards on children’s rights, has developed a legislative framework that aims to combine the efficiency of the act of justice with the need for protection, re-education and social reintegration of the minor who comes into conflict with the criminal law.

- Summary/Abstract:The international community began to address the diverse needs and vulnerabilities of children as human beings in the last century, and some human rights instruments have also addressed the rights of young people. In this regard, it has been recognized that young people, who are still in the early stages of their personality development, need special attention and assistance in order to develop mentally and intellectually and to integrate better into society, and must be protected by law in accordance with conditions that guarantee their peace, freedom, dignity, and safety. All states with a legal system based on the rule of law have made legislative changes that focus on the principle of protecting the best interests of the child. However, some legal systems, including the Romanian one, seem to be moving towards a new paradigm through certain legislative changes, some of which are open to criticism in that they depart from the aforementioned principle, with particular reference to prevention, especially with regard to the crime of rape of a minor. In our opinion, prevention should focus on raising the quality of life and general well-being, and not only on the immediate elimination of clearly defined but partial problems.

- Summary/Abstract:The consumer contract concluded between a professional and a consumer is a recent tool of private law. Given its novel institutions, such as precontractual obligations, unilateral rescind or presumed abusive clauses, the consumer contract is of a controversial legal nature. Thus, questions arise, such as: Is it subject to the general contracting rules stated by the Civil Code (the common law in this matter), or are we witnessing a new general contractual theory? Since consumer law is multidisciplinary in nature, another question arises: Is the consumer contract truly a “contract” in the meaning intended by the Napoleonic Civil Code of 1804? For these reasons, we believe a succinct analysis of the relationship between the consumer contract and civil law is welcomed.

- Summary/Abstract:Ethnic discrimination in legal employment relations involves the application of differential treatment by the employer, without acknowledging protected criteria relating to race, nationality, color, ethnic origin, language or national origin, including nationality or religion in association with race, with the aim of restricting, removing the use or exercise of the rights of employees from groups considered disadvantaged. Discrimination imposes a regime of inequality and intolerance towards persons belonging to ethnic minorities, thus excluding them from access to jobs or treating them differently after recruitment compared to employees belonging to the majority, in a comparable situation in terms of duties, or treating them in the same way, even though they had different duties in the labor process. The article analyzes ethnic discrimination, with reference to the European legislative framework on the subject, with reference to international and European regulations and relevant case law.
