Summary/Abstract: The book demonstrates the usefulness of historical memory in creating space for Chinese-Polish cooperation in practical areas of life. It recalls the contribution of 17th-century Polish Jesuit and missionary Michael Boym to the dialogue between China and Europe, while also showing how his legacy can be utilized today. This is an unusual publication, as it combines a presentation of historical research with an indication of its social relevance in contemporary times. It serves both the development of scholarship and the practical application of what has been learned. The first part is devoted to Michael Boym as a Jesuit, traveler, and sinologist. It presents his widely known scholarly achievements, but, at the same time, the authors focus on a previously unexplored episode in the Polish scholar’s life related to his stay in Zhaoqing. The second part of the volume describes the beginnings and development of academic cooperation between the scholarly communities of Poznań and Zhaoqing. The authors discuss Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and its research on Michael Boym’s legacy, as well as the traditions and potential of Zhaoqing University and the studies conducted there on Chinese-foreign cultural exchange in the Xi Jiang River basin.A particularly important part of the publication is the compilation of information on the Polish language lectureship conducted in Zhaoqing by lecturers from the Faculty of Polish and Classical Philology at AMU. The book presents individuals who have participated in this collaboration over the years, as well as statements from students learning Polish in Zhaoqing and later studying in Poznań as part of the inter-university exchange. In this respect, the humanities research reveals its practical application and relevance for initiating and conducting intercultural dialogue."
