Summary/Abstract: During 2009, Serbia made a necessary step forward in defining its future as a European country. The measures taken by the Serbian government on that course opened up a European perspective. This inevitably led to negative reactions from a part of the Serbian elite, which vehemently defends its positions, insisting on the big-state project. This primarily refers to opposition to NATO membership, the interpretation of the recent past, and the defense of the status quo in Bosnia.
