Summary/Abstract: The position of minorities and their integration into the wider political, economic and cultural community is one of the most important indicators of the democracy of certain societies. It is not enough just to see how the elections were conducted, or their outcome, because it is much more important to see how governments treat minorities: the more protected they are, the higher the level of democracy in society. Serbia is far from the standard by which minorities are treated as equal citizens. In recent years, there has been a trend of strengthening ethnocentric politics, organized right-wing, racism, violence against minorities, xenophobia, as well as the development of mechanisms of indirect discrimination against minorities. We cannot ignore the economic crisis, which always first affects marginalized ethnic groups, migrants and new minorities.
