Summary/Abstract: On February 20, 2016, the Government of the Republic of Serbia adopted the National Strategy for Prosecuting War Crimes for the period from 2016 to 2020, which defined a set of activities whose common goal is to improve the processing of war crimes in Serbia. Determining individual criminal responsibility for war crimes committed during the 1990s is part of the formal conditions for Serbia's accession to the European Union. As an immediate response to the recommendations defined by the European Commission in the Screening Report, Serbia also adopted the Action Plan for Chapter 235, which refers to judicial reform and fundamental rights, including war crimes. The action plan, in part "1.4. War crimes", envisages a set of activities for all state bodies responsible for processing war crimes.
