Summary/Abstract: The following text aims to present dramatherapy, theatre therapy, drama and engagement pedagogy as so-called para-theatrical systems, i.e. those that use theatre for other than artistic purposes. In case their aim is teaching, we speak of para-theatrical systems of an educational nature (e.g. theatre education); in case the aim is healing, correction, psychosocial growth, we speak of systems of a therapeutic nature (here we include mainly dramatherapy, psychodrama and theatre therapy). We will try to present the basic principles of dramatherapy, drama theatre therapy (a specific form of therapeutic theatre) and the pedagogy of engagement and, finally, we will give some concrete examples of para-theatrical projects, methods and techniques. We will also mention group work (or group dynamics), which is central to the paradigmatic approaches. Dramatherapy and theatre therapy could also be classified as expressive therapies, i.e. psychotherapeutic systems that use artistic expression as a means to achieve therapeutic goals.
