Summary/Abstract: The results of the research in front of you show that the CSO sector is relatively young because most of the organizations were founded after 2000, while about a quarter of the organizations were founded before 1990. Most CSOs primarily deal with social services, culture, media and recreation, and the environment (among which, for example, some hunting associations were founded more than a hundred years ago). The largest number of CSOs is located in Vojvodina, followed by Belgrade, and the rest are evenly distributed across the regions. The reasons why CSOs chose the primary area of activity are different, but three main reasons prevail: interests in a specific area, available capacity of CSOs, and the priority of solving a certain problem in society. The results of the research indicate that CSOs, although they themselves recognize the standard of living as a burning problem in society, at the same time see the sector's insufficient dealing with this issue as a problem. As for the dominant types of CSO activities, they are mostly education and actions in the local community, and all citizens are most often mentioned as users of CSO services.
