Summary/Abstract: In the late sixties and early seventies of the last century, I spent several years in Yugoslavia studying the language, literature and social conditions. After studying Slavic Studies, History of Religions and Sociology at the University of Uppsala, in the mid-seventies I prepared a doctoral thesis in Eastern European Studies on the role of religion in Yugoslav society, based on empirical research and theoretical discussions within the new Marxist sociology of religion. The plan was to defend the thesis in 1976 or 1977, but due to a prolonged illness, the project was abandoned. Instead, in 1986, I got my doctorate in sociology, on the topic of Yugoslav immigration in Sweden. At the same time, I also prepared a discussion that would be part of the original thesis: Theoretical perspectives in the Yugoslav sociology of religion. This is the text that is now being published in the Serbian language.
