Summary/Abstract: The modern way of life is characterized by an increasingly rapid flow of information. New technologies are gaining importance, and thanks to them, new forms of communication have also appeared. In this sense, the mobile phone has a special place. Not only is it responsible for “bringing people together”, but it has also encouraged the creation of a special type of communication unknown before its appearance – communication via short written texts, the so-called messages, which are the subject of this book. This type of communication takes place in almost all everyday occasions and life situations. There is hardly a person who has not received or sent a message by mobile phone. The author’s wish is to point out the importance of communication via SMS and Viber messages from an ethnological-anthropological perspective, as well as the occasions in which they have become generally accepted in the present time. Ordinary (conversational) telephone communication – both everyday and business – is excluded from consideration, as it falls into the personal sphere and is most often outside public view.
