Summary/Abstract: The textbook is intended especially for future biology teachers. Introductory chapters include organization of algal thallus, cellular and subcellular organization, reproduction, life cycles, the endosymbiotic theory of the chloroplasts evolution and classification of the algae. It is supplemented with clear tables, diagrams and pictures, didactic advice, tips for simple experiments, instructions on where and how to collect cyanobacteria and algae in nature. The basic characteristics of main algal lineages are supplemented by the most important representatives, given in Latin and Czech languages for the purpose of primary and secondary schools. It is supplemented with a terminological dictionary and useful literature, where readers can find more details on the topic. Textbook summarizes thirty years of experience in teaching the system of cyanobacteria and algae for future teachers of biology.
