Summary/Abstract: This study contains an analysis of media reporting on violence against women, but also goes a step further, looking at a more comprehensive picture of the portrayal of women in the media and their media presentation, as well as the way women are treated in society in general. Namely, through analyzed media reports, it can be concluded that a woman will appear in the media mostly if she is naked and highly sexualized or if she is beaten or dead (Gligorijević, 2017). This study contains an analysis of media reporting on violence against women in Serbia in (primarily and in detail) a two-year period (2015-2016), with necessary additions from 2017, 2018 and 2019, which refer to the most severe forms of that violence with a fatal outcome. The author's long-term commitment to criminological-phenomenological analysis of gender-based violence is the reason why this text necessarily includes a series of specific media reports on cases of the most brutal violence against women, which, as the author says, was impossible not to consider. Because of its affiliation, this text is classified not only in the field of communication studies, but clearly profiles it in the field of criminological studies.
