Summary/Abstract: The text analyzes the current and potential, improved concept of regional development policy planning in the Republic of Serbia in the context of the preparation of the unified National Regional Development Plan of Serbia. The conclusion is that the reform of the planning system would contribute to regional development policy, as an area that permeates all other areas, to the achievement of more significant results and processes of political and social change. The reports of international organizations indicate that there is no effective government center for active policy creation in Serbia, which causes a lack of capacity for the revision of current policy, strategic thinking and effective planning, but at the same time there is a danger of creating parallel systems for regional development planning.
