- Summary/Abstract:Starting from a riddle about shadow, the article proposes a reflection on the subtle relationship between light and shadow as modes of representation and perception. Light provides visibility, but shadows provide depth and meaning. Applied to roads - especially high-speed ones -, this idea raises the question of whether modern (road) infrastructure can become not only a space of efficient transit, but also a place of memory, identity and contemplation. The article explores the opposition between two fundamental modes of existence, vita activa and vita contemplativa. Fast roads illustrate the contemporary obsession with speed, excessive visibility, possession, accumulation, consumption, hyperactivity and performance, blurring opportunities for reflection and interiority. They become a metaphor of an existence without pause and meaning. In contrast, slow roads - through the presence of shadows and intermediate stops - allow reconnection with time, place and self, supporting a more balanced relationship between man and the traversed environment. Today's society privileges "having" over "being", and the loss of shadow spaces transforms the road into a non-place lacking identity and depth. Healing begins with the establishment of limits (inner thresholds) that stimulate creativity and facilitate a return to oneself. Roads, like any act of design, must be anchored in the territory and include spaces for stopping and reflection. They can become intermediate spaces that facilitate the dialogue between landscape and man, past and present. It is not about rejecting the modern road, but about restoring the balance between active exteriority and contemplative interiority. Inspired by Fernando Pessoa's idea of static theatre - where inner movement is more important than physical movement -, the article proposes a reading of the road as a stage of introspection. At high speeds, we perceive only fragments of the landscape, and inner experiences become essential. Roads can be more than simple transit corridors: they can become frames of moving contemplation, scenes of rediscovering interiority and the natural rhythms of time. The revaluation of "shadows" - i.e. spaces of slowing down, of stopping - could recover the authentic meaning of travel. Fast roads correspond to conventional theatre, dominated by action, while slow roads and stopping stations evoke the static theatre of contemplation. In order to recover the reflexive dimension of travel, road infrastructure must include territorial anchors that stimulate deep perception (of the traversed space). The article invites us to rethink the road as a space of encounter and authentic experience, to become a living place again.

- Summary/Abstract:In a world dominated by speed and efficiency, roads and the spaces on their edges have been reduced to simple transport infrastructures, sacrificing the sensitive relationship with the (road) landscape. The article proposes rethinking roads as aesthetic and narrative spaces, using cinematic, theatrical and graphic lenses to restore the affective and identity connection with the environment. The key questions aim at rehumanizing the road and recovering the contemplative dimension of the journey. Driving is a visual experience directed by rules, infrastructure and landscape elements. The windshield functions as a cinema screen, and the driver, limited by the context, only partially controls the image. In order to transform the road from a simple circulation axis into an aesthetic and affective experience, interventions that bring variation, rhythm and restore dialogue with the landscape and the crossed settlements are essential. Furthermore, the impact of excessive speed on human perception is analyzed. On high-speed roads, the driving experience is transformed into a suspended motion: isolation increases, spatial understanding decreases, and the driver alternates between hyper-concentration and passivity. The landscape becomes monotonous and decorative, lifeless. In parallel, cinema has illustrated similarities between the perception of roads and the atmosphere of expressionist or noir films, emphasizing the contrast between dynamic and uniform spaces, between uncertainty and apparent safety. High-speed roads become non-places: spaces without identity, memory or emotional anchors. The experience of travel is reduced to an abstract movement, isolated from reality. For pedestrians or nearby residents, the roads appear as an alienating spectacle, in which speed and the continuous flow of vehicles erase the human relationship with space. The article raises the question of whether roads can be designed to restore the connection between people and place. A holistic approach to road design is proposed, combining aesthetics, ecology and local identity. Roads can become compositional routes, alternating open and closed frames, cultural landmarks and recognizable landscapes. By integrating stopping spaces and visual markings, the travel experience is enriched, and the relationship between the traveler and the environment is renewed. Therefore, roads can become scenes of the landscape and spaces of dialogue between people and territory, not just axes of travel. A road aesthetic is needed that supports attention, orientation and connection with the environment. Through a subtle composition of frames, lights, shadows and vegetal interventions, the road can offer a coherent and sensitive experience, reconnecting the traveler with the soil and the traversed landscape.

- Summary/Abstract:In Romania, peri-urbanization has intensified considerably in the post-socialist period. In the Cluj area, urban expansion reflects insufficiently regulated planning, and newly built dwellings express a variety of lifestyles and consumption patterns. Our research in this area highlights a process of urban-rural hybridization, visible in architecture and everyday practices. To analyze this phenomenon, we have proposed a system for assessing hybridity and urbanity gradients based on criteria such as: mode of housing acquisition, formality of the construction process, plot occupancy, comfort, materials, relationship with agriculture, type of annexes, consumption and storage practices and neighboring relationships. The article explores aspects complementary to architecture—land use, infrastructure, agriculture, and consumption—as indicators of urbanity. Applying a theoretical filter to these criteria will help us to establish, the characteristics of urbanity gradients on a scale from rural to urban. By combining the theoretical part with field research, we will draw conclusions about the relationships between land use, infrastructure, agriculture, consumption and storage practices.

- Summary/Abstract:The period following World War II presented Italy, Germany, and Spain with the complex task of confronting the legacies of fascism, dictatorship, and collaboration while simultaneously reconstructing national identities. Italy and Germany engaged in vigorous debates, navigating the dual imperatives of acknowledging wartime atrocities and forging new national narratives. German memory politics were profoundly shaped by large-scale confrontations with the Holocaust and Nazi crimes, influencing education and public memorialization. In contrast, Spain's post-Franco transition was characterized by a deliberate attenuation of controversial historical discourse, fostering a degree of national amnesia regarding its dictatorial past. This resulted in a divergence between official memory and popular efforts to recover historical truth. Comparing these national trajectories reveals distinct approaches to reconciling a difficult past with the demands of democratic modernity, highlighting both shared challenges and unique national paths in redefining post-war European identities.

- Summary/Abstract:This paper aims to understand the way city inhabitants from Bucharest relate to urban agricultural practices in the post-socialist context, in order to to inform the development of legislative frameworks (laws, regulations, public policies) that support urban agriculture. For this aim we conducted qualitative literature reviews of publications on the topic of urban agriculture in Romania and an analysis of the current situation of community gardens in Bucharest, including mapping, interviews and site visits. Results demonstrate that many city inhabitants and authorities consider urban agriculture as ”uncivilized” and a relic of the socialist past. At the same time, small grassroots initiatives concerned with environmental issues have taken on promoting urban agriculture practices by initiating community gardens. The high interest of participants in gardening activities and the rate of development of these initiatives, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic, demonstrate the growing interest of city inhabitants in practicing urban agriculture and the need for top-down support by suitable legislative frameworks.

- Summary/Abstract:This article presents the types of nature-based solutions, along with the environmental and socio-economic problems they can solve, highlighting the importance given to the implementation of green-blue infrastructure at the European level, and the lack of attention given to this subject in the Romanian legislation. Nature is an important element in people's lives. Through ecosystem services, the supply of food, water and construction materials can be ensured. Chaotic developments of the urban fabric are the main factors causing the fragmentation of natural ecosystems. Also, excessive construction, without a well-developed green-blue infrastructure plan, results in urban areas facing problems of pollution, climate change and extreme phenomena that are difficult to control, which could be solved by prioritizing nature-based solutions. Nature-based solutions can help societies manage environmental and socio-economic challenges, relying on ecosystem services. Depending on the degree of human intervention, nature-based solutions are classified into: natural areas with minimal human intervention, natural resource management areas and ecosystem expansion and diversification areas. These solutions must be implemented through integrated policies, strategy plans and regulations, in order to develop green spaces, water management, public health, transport and population education. The aim is to achieve concrete results in reducing air pollution and combating climate change.

- Summary/Abstract:Unfired clay (adobe elements) has been used since ancient times as a building material that presents many ecological and energy-efficient advantages, but which has a high vulnerability to the action of water, which can lead to loss of strength and rapid degradation of the buildings. The present study analyzes different solutions for protecting unfired clay elements against water absorption, by applying recipes based on lime paste, sodium bicarbonate, boiled linseed oil and rabbit glue. Several combinations and protective layers were tested, evaluated by measuring water absorption at different time intervals. The results revealed a significant reduction in water permeability, especially in the case of treatments that combined the effects of pore dispersion with their filling and the creation of a waterproofing film. These solutions can contribute to increasing the durability of unfired clay buildings, while maintaining the ecological benefits of the material.

- Summary/Abstract:According to Normative P100-1/2013, brittle elements must be evaluated according to their ability to dissipate seismic energy and identify collapse mechanisms, with tests showing that most structures operate under seismic stress. Materials such as hemp clay, autoclaved cellular concrete, full brick, composite materials exhibit different impact behaviors. In this article are presented the behaviors of materials based on spectral analysis, which highlights their degree of seismic energy absorption and vibration transmission, providing a detailed insight into the potential of each material to dissipate the energy induced by an earthquake. This approach contributes to a better understanding of structural risks and good optimization when choosing construction materials exposed to areas with high seismic potential.
