Summary/Abstract: The monograph discusses the problem of explicating the meanings of verb units represented by 'stracić' ('lose') and semantically related expressions, including 'zmarnować' ('waste'), 'przepuścić', 'roztrwonić' ('squander'). The author also examines the properties of the related verb 'mieć' ('have') and describes the operations to which these units are subjected. The analysis is based on Andrzej Boguslawski’s theory of language units and on the assumption of the existence of undefined concepts (as Anna Wierzbicka puts it) which are the component of complex concepts.
