Summary/Abstract: The volume is a result of a student-doctoral conference entitled „Aktywizacja – innowacja – akulturacja. (Glotto)dydaktyka a kryzys migracyjny”, which gathered young researchers from all over the country to share their experience related to teaching Polish as a foreign language. The issues raised in volume are the answers for dynamically changing needs of students interested in studying Polish, who want to be stimulated to action (activation) during the lessons, preferably using modernized (innovative) didactics methods. In the entire teaching process, there must be a place for expanding the cultural awareness (acculturation), because it is inseparable piece of today’s reality. Those issues are discussed in the publication.

(Sustainable Development Goals in Polish Language Classes in Primary Schools Contemporary Challenges and the Canon of Reading)
- Author(s):Joanna Kostrzewa
- Language:Polish
- Subject(s):Language studies, Language and Literature Studies, Foreign languages learning
- Page Range:141-149
- No. of Pages:9
- Keywords:education reform; core curriculum; primary school; Polish language; reading canon; Sustainable Development Goals; contemporary challenges
- Summary/Abstract:The aim of the article is to present how the readings included in the core curriculum of the Polish language subject can be discussed in the context of contemporary challenges. The Polish village shown in the positivist novel Janko Muzykant may – due to the age of the recipients – leave students with a stereotypical image of the 19th-century village as a closed historical period, which in no way corresponds to the reality of a modern student. Both compulsory and supplementary readings included in the core curriculum can be related to contemporary challenges, i.e. discussed, if possible, in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals. We expand the space of interpretation and analysis of literary works, relating texts often considered archaic to the realities in which contemporary students live. We are also able to sensitize young people to the needs of the modern world and equip them with into a sense of action.

(Daily Challenges of Polish Language Teachers in Working with Students of Ukrainian Origin)
- Author(s):Kornelia Mazowiecka, Wiktoria Tatar
- Language:Polish
- Subject(s):Language studies, Language and Literature Studies, Foreign languages learning
- Page Range:151-161
- No. of Pages:11
- Keywords:refugee students from Ukraine; polish language teachers; language of school education; polish glottodidactics; obstacles to learning
- Summary/Abstract:The article highlights the issues faced by teachers in primary and secondary schools who teach newly arrived students of Ukrainian origin. A survey was created to reflect on ways to improve the situation for Polish language teachers. The authors asked questions regarding the lessons conducted, such as whether the presence of non-native children and adolescents affects the quality of the classes, and, importantly, whether the teachers have educational backgrounds in glottodidactics. They also inquired about how the teachers would explain typically grammatical issues. The study reveals that Polish schools still face the same problems as they did at the beginning of the influx of foreigners into educational institutions. Based on the collected material, the conclusion emerged that the situation remains difficult for both sides – teachers and students – and requires improvement.

(Understanding Cultures, or Children’s Literature as a Tool for Developing Sensitivity to Multiculturalism)
- Author(s):Paulina Pawlik
- Language:Polish
- Subject(s):Language studies, Language and Literature Studies, Foreign languages learning
- Page Range:163-173
- No. of Pages:11
- Keywords:intercultural fairy tale; children’s literature; multiculturalism
- Summary/Abstract:The text draws attention to the important role of the teacher in intercultural and inclusive education and the fact that intercultural fairy tales can significantly convey knowledge about cultural differences and tame the issue of Otherness. Providing students with cultural differences at the preschool and early school level and sensitizing them to the presence of the Other in the society around them will allow for the sustainable development of both native students and students with a migratory context. The author demonstrates these assumptions on the basis of the fairy tales Inny na uchodźczym szlaku by Anna Młynarczuk-Sokołowska and Katarzyna Szostak-Król and Podróż Innego do Krainy Smoka by Ewelina Rusicka-Karoui.
