Summary/Abstract: This monography provides a description of traditional natural and cultural values in the protection and preservation of UNESCO heritage. The case study in territory are on the Slovak side Vlkolínec (for 25 years in UNESCO) and on the Czech side the Slavonic fortified settlement in Mikulčice, which is a potential candidate for registration on the UNESCO heritage list. In particular, practical options for using existing tools for the protection of monuments, such as land use plans, management plans or monument protection zones, are mentioned. The publication is the outcome of the project NKP3040D001: UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Life of Municipalities, Cities and Regions.
