Summary/Abstract: The publication focuses on the most spread type of environmental interpretation in the Czech Republic, e.g. the self-guided (signed) trails. In the first part it embeds the trails into the context of both theory and methodology of environmental interpretation. It discusses the history of interpretation and the key instructional principles recommended for designing interpretation programs nowadays. In more details it focuses on the guidelines for designing self-guided trails, as a type of a non-personal interpretation. In the second part it discusses specific areas of an evaluation research of the non-personal interpretation programs. On the basis of an analysis of published evaluation studies it shows on-going methodological problems and also on the importance of an evaluation for designing new programs. The third part presents results of original evaluation studies of selected self-guided trails in the Czech Republic. On the specific examples it reminds methodological issues connected with their evaluation and discusses the strong and the weak parts of the evaluated programs. In the last part the book summarizes the results of presented studies and suggests measurements for further increasing a quality of the non-personal interpretation and its evaluation.
