Summary/Abstract: The article inspects the way in which the institution of the Bulgarian Radio functioned as propagandist for the communist ideology through its music in the period 1944 – 1989. In its intentional educational and cultural strategy, the Radio activated a great resource of specialists, created a significant number of musical ensembles and developed an enormous recording venture. One of the means of imposing the doctrine turned out to be the religious in origin and function oratorical genre, which was conveniently adapted to the new teleology. The praises and eulogies inherent in the genre, addressed to God and the kingdom of heaven, have changed direction and addressed to the earthly social order, its party and its leader. Thus, through the creative activity of the Bulgarian composers, the professional achievements of the musical ensembles, and the musical and musical-educational programs, the Bulgarian radio become a powerful factor for the creation of the desired image of the forever happy society. Behind the imposed ideological and artistic canon of the musical production and behind the creative taboos and the sanctioning censorship, the shadow of the built utopia can be seen in its anti-utopian realization.
