Summary/Abstract: Musical rhetorical figures, used to create and emphasize a certain affect or image, are found mainly in the music of the16-18th. centuries. They are linked to the textual component of the works and have a link to rhetoric. Although rhetorical figures have been used mainly in Baroque music, contemporary composers also work with them in their spiritual works. An example is the Slovak composer Ľuboš Bernáth, whose selected spiritual works Vzkriesenie Lazara, Knihy žalmov a Motetus sacrum I., exhibit the use of rhetorical figures in contemporary music.
