Saving face – conversation analysis of a television programme dedicated to plastic surgery addiction

Summary/Abstract: The method of conversation analysis was used to analyze an interview brodcast on TVP2 “Pytanie na śniadanie” devoted to addiction to plastic surgery. The interviewees were a woman known as the Polish Barbie doll, her partner and a plastic surgeon. The interview was moderated by two TV presenters. In the analyzed fragments, it was noticeable how the possibility of a dispute was neutralized on an ongoing basis, and the differences of opinions and views were settled. The main result of the analysis is the reconstruction of the way the conversation proceeds in an embarrassing situation.
