Summary/Abstract: The necropolises of Polocin, Pogonești, and Săbăoani are attributed to the Sântana de Mureș-Cernjahov culture, chronologically framed by the authors of the archaeological excavations in the 4th century AD. They are biritual necropolises, using both cremation and burial. The average age at death is highest in Pogonești (37.89 years), the other two populations register lower values - 22.76 years in Săbăoani and 22.12 years in Polocin. Higher life expectancy at birth and average age at death in Pogonești are due to the structure of the paleoanthropological sample, where no subadult subjects (children and adolescents) are registered. The population size is estimated in Săbăoani at 59 individuals. In Polocin the population counts 49 individuals, and in Pogonești the populationsize is estimated at 193 individuals. In these three populations, we find a typological mixture, with the presence of Mediterranoid, Nordoid, and Dinaroid characters. It should be noted that Proto-Europoid expressions are present in all necropolises, and Mongoloid forms are missing. The general paleoanthropological characteristics of these three populations attributed to the Sântana de Mureș-Cernjahov culture on the territory of the Moldavian Central Plateau are similar; they have similar demographic elements and fall into a not very different typological picture, sharing the same characteristics, but with different dominances.
