Summary/Abstract: The discovery of the Horlești mass grave in Iași County is the proof of the troubled history of these areas. It was chronologically framed based on the 14C analysis between the 1400s and the 1800s AD. The excessive fragmentation of the osteological material made the anthropological analysis difficult, but to our surprise, we discovered fascinating things. The deceased had a violent death, as shown by trauma detected on the cranial and postcranial bones, and had, at the time of death, ages between 20 and 50 years. The minimum number of individuals is 99. The great majority of those buried are males and present, as a whole, a typology similar to the one of synchronous necropolises from the times of the rule of Petru Rareș and Dimitrie Cantemir. The death-causing lesions were produced by sharp weapons, arrows and projectiles. The burial was made without burial goods, in a rush and without paying any attention to the deceased, the individuals being stripped of the goods that could have survived the passing of time. The individuals are the defeated of a military confrontation, most likely.
