Summary/Abstract: Background: The objective of the paper is to examine legal solutions for renewable energy sources (RES), in light of the Renewable Energy Sources Act, Energy Law Act and EU legal regulations, in the context of ensuring energy security. The evaluation and qualification of energy security would not be possible without a comprehensive analysis of the current determinants of the energy system, largely affected by changes in energy policy directions as the European Green Deal. Research purpose: The aim of the research was to examine Polish and European Union legal solutions for renewable energy sources in energy security, but above all to try to answer the question, whether renewable sources energy are a promise in energy security. The article contains an assessment and qualification of energy security, which is not possible without an analysis of the conditions of the energy system, determined by the modification of the energy policy directions. Methods: The dogmatic and comparative legal method was used in the article. Conclusions: Renewable energy sources are now considered the foundation of energy security and a crucial element of energy policy. Thus, the implementation of energy policy aimed at energy security improvement with a focus on environmental protection provides a critical impulse to renewable energy production. Within Poland’s legal system, energy security is one of the primary goals of energy sector regulation.
