Summary/Abstract: The article reflects the biography and the creation of Eleonora Romanescu, a notorious name in the fine art of the Republic of Moldova, who is part of the generation that lay the foundation of the national school of painting, along with M. Grecu, I. Vieru, G. Sainciuc, V. Rusu-Ciobanu, A. Zevin. We aim to rediscover her in the way she has addressed various kinds of art. The artist approached all genres in painting, giving priority to the landscape that “always poses to her”. She immortalized nature in its entire splendor, presenting the villages of Moldova and their people, the beauty of the homeland, the warmth of the people and evoking the popular traditions. In genre painting and monumental landscapes, she was preoccupied with the structuring the plans and with the chromatic range used wisely. In the portrait, the author tried to capture the faces of the peasants and of the people of different ages, thoughtful or sad, presenting the spiritual beauty of the man through color and juxtaposition of nuances. The artist was a graduate of the Republican School of Fine Arts “Ilia Repin” and of the painter-restorer courses at the Central State Workshops “Iurie Grabari” in Moscow. She worked as a teacher of drawing at the Teacher Training School in Orhei, as main custodian and then as a painter-restorer at the Museum of Fine Arts in the MRSS, and later she resumed her pedagogical activity at the Republican Secondary School of Fine Arts in Chisinau. Since 1958, she was a Member of the Union of Plastic Artists in the MRSS and since 1965 she became a Member of the Council of the Union of Plastic Artists.
