Summary/Abstract: As in the previous decade, fashion in the MSSR was directed by the Chisinau Model House, which was concerned with designing the models and distributing them to businesses in the country. However, the basic trends for the next season were regulated by the USSR’s profile institutions and proposed by the International Congress of Fashion, whose members were the socialist countries. Fashion in the early 1960s in the MSSR is characterized by a diversity in style. Many new models appear which are presented in the periodicals published in Chisinau. Although the clothing evolves, however, there is a lack of cloth variety. Elegant dresses and suits are offered, adjustable to the waistline, coats with a kimono sleeve, etc. Emphasis is also placed on the diversity of children’s clothing. Production of new accessory models: shoes, hats, bags and gloves is intensified. For consumers, there appear models of bridal dresses and suits for grooms, swimsuits etc. produced by local factories. In 1962, emphasis was placed on simplicity and practicality. Nonessential changes in the silhouette are distinguished; it becomes looser, the waist is slightly lengthened, the skirt is straight or wide. The straight skirts are longer than in the previous year, and the faps are up to the knees. In the case of dresses, there are two types of patterns, the one similar to the cut of the shirt and the dress-suit. The coats, suits and dresses are cut without a collar or a small one. In the case of dresses, the square neck is offered, the straight neckline, but all with a nonessential gait. In the case of suits, loose and longer jackets are worn than in the previous period with one or two rows of buttons. Although clothing in the MSSR in the 1960s was a relatively young field, it evolved with fast steps in both cut and quality of finished products.
