Private Space in the City of Galaţi (1883-1914), Attitudes And States of Mind

Summary/Abstract: In order to get a real glimpse of the private space of the inhabitant of Galaţi, at the turn of the XIX-th and XX-th centuries, we have to investigate his life within his own house, to see him in the background of the ambiental fashion of the age and according to his own views of personal confort, according to his own financial condition. We also have to take notice of some of his attitudes inside the house (relations among the family members, relations between the family members and the neighbours, the compliance of his private life with the requirements of social interaction). We also have to take notice of his individual attitudes outside of the house, considered as a continously increasing opening of the private life towards the public life.
