On the “word” in the world of people and animals (on the example of zoonotic verbs of speaking)

Summary/Abstract: The article concentrates on the semantic structure of verbs of speaking (verba dicendi), the shape of which is motivated by verbs naming sounds produced by animals. The author, using the tools worked out on the ground of structural semantics, makes an attempt to prove that the meaning of the lexemes: ćwierkać (chirp), gdakać (cluck), gęgać (gaggle), gruchać (coo), klekotać (clatter), krakać (caw), miauczeć (mew), mruczeć (purr), piać (crow), pohukiwać (hoot), ryczeć (roar), skomleć (yelp), skrzeczeć (squawk), syczeć (hiss), szczebiotać (twitter), szczekać (bark), świergotać (chatter), tokować (gas), ujadać (yap) and warczeć (growl) includes the information on the way of sending a message that can be characterized by means of basic acoustic parameters. Besides, the author makes an attempt to investigate the verbal surrounding where the zoonotic verbs of speaking can appear.
