Summary/Abstract: “The moral and financial recognition of those working in the press has worsened a lot in the last 30 years, which obviouslyhas both professional and non-professional reasons” (Ágoston 2020) – said László Szűcs, the president of the HungarianJournalists’ Association in Romania in interview. The president of the journalism association even named some of these reasonsin the interview, such as the ageing and burnout of the journalist society, the political infl uence and pressure on the media, orthe political dependence of the media. In this study, I will present how the Hungarian journalism in Romania and the journalistsociety developed, changed over the last 30 years, focusing on the changes mentioned by László Szűcs and other decisivefactors presented in the literature.
