Summary/Abstract: The XVIIth century is a period of maximum prosperity for Romanian theological literature and thus for the whole Romanian culture. This century enabled a number of bishops to be regarded as the founders of the Romanian language and culture, due to their entire activity. Moreover, some of these bishops, thanks to their improved life, came to be canonized, being honored as saints of Orthodoxy. These bishops gave Romanian culture works of great significance, works whose importance endures over time. In 2013 we celebrate some of the great masterpieces of the Romanian theological literature of the XVIIth century. Thus, this year celebrates 370 years since the Homiliary of Varlaam has been printed, a work published in 1643. It also celebrates 365 years since the New Testament from Belgrade has been published, an extraordinary work published in 1648 with the help of St. Metropolitan Simion Stefan of Transylvania. Also this year we celebrate 340 years since the printing of the Psalter in verse of St. Dosoftei Metropolitan of Moldova, work published in 1673, this holy Metropolitan Dosoftei being considered as the first Romanian poet. In 2013 we also celebrate 325 years since the Bucharest Bible has been printed, another monumental work of Romanian theological literature that appeared in 1688. These works have contributed enormously to the development of the Romanian culture.
