Summary/Abstract: Speaking about counterterrorism and counterterrorist activities might seem very common nowadays as after 9/11 the world was flooded with terms, definitions, laws and activities related to counterterrorism. Things were a little different at the beginning of the 20th century in Romania when counterintelligence services were trying hard to tackle terrorist activities conducted and/or coordinated by foreign intelligence services. Counterterrorism activities in the military area were first established as part of military counterintelligence tasks during the interwar period. This article presents the terrorist threat in Romania at the beginning of 20thcentury, who was responsible for terrorist attacks, what were the counterterrorism-like tasks and some of the successes of military counterterrorism.
