Military counterintelligence – necessity, genesis and evolution

Summary/Abstract: Both history and recent events are living proofs that a state must have strong institutions to survive. In this context, military counterintelligence services play an important role because, through their specific activity, they protect state armies from external threats while trying to diminish internal vulnerabilities. Once these objectives have been achieved, the army continues to provide an important part of national security, playing a vital role both in peacetime and especially in wartime, in ensuring stability and in managing critical events. This paper describes how the counterintelligence military services have played an important role in the historical events that have contributed to the achievement of the Romanian state in the form we know today.
