Summary/Abstract: The article characterizes the efforts of national and international statistical services to better adopt contents and forms of statistics dissemination to changing requirements of primary user groups. A statistical information importance for socio-economic decision makers is discussed in the study. There are some demands for statistics concerning improvement of the citizen life condition and quality measurement taking into consideration rational aspects of the nature and culture resource management. Special attention was paid to assess today statistical information systems as well as change proposals presented in the Stiglitz-Sen-Fitoussi Report on Economic Performance and Social Progress Measurement. The authors discuss activities concerning the welfare and social progress measurement conducted under the aegis of the OECD, i.e. World Project on Social Progress Measurement as well as studies conducted within the European Statistical System.
