Summary/Abstract: In this essay the author examined the steps taken by the authorities in the NDH against the Jews and the attitude of the clergy toward these laws. He also discussed the suffering experienced by those who were persecuted. However, he did not go over the abundant literature on this subject, for the latter was largely influenced by communist, anti-ecclesiastical propaganda and by a historiography that never managed to break free of anti-Catholic prejudice. Therefore, he concentrated on documents, particularly those of the Church, for it was these that have been largely ignored by most historians and other writers.
