Summary/Abstract: The main goal of the 1995 Convention was to equate private and public law in the pursuit of establishing a framework for cross-national cooperation in the field of returning stolen or illegally exported cultural objects. Simultaneously, the UNIDROIT Convention strengthened the provisions of the 1970 UNESCO Convention2 by address- ing its weaknesses on issues of private law.
