Summary/Abstract: The article presents the creation of Raina Katsarova’s kinestenography system from a historical perspective. The study encompasses the time frame from the earliest archival document containing an initial attempt at representing dance movements (1935) to the first printed edition of her kinestenography introduced in a relatively complete way (1942). This research is based on a thorough examination of all her field work materials dated between 1928 and 1942. In addition to that, all the kinestenograms included there have been identified and analysed with a view to tracing the formation of her dance notation system.
