A systematic and pragmatic approach to the use of attractive substitution

Summary/Abstract: The author presents a possibly different approach of the user and the linguist to the use of the possessive pronoun "svoj" in written Slovak and to its evaluation. The systematic approach is based on the system rules, their knowledge, and respect, while the pragmatic approach does not give the system rules and their knowledge such importance and binding force, tolerating their circumvention, but the condition that such use of the pronoun "svoj" does not cause an error in the proper understanding of the conveyed linguistic information must be fulfilled. Misunderstanding and possible linguistic error are prevented by the user’s reliance on human knowledge of the external world and his practical human experience.
