Summary/Abstract: Folklore is the reflection of stereotypes in people’s consciousness, which is confirmed by the data obtained in the course of the analysis carried out by the author. The symbolism of space and its components (such as road, field, mountains, forest, village, garden, river, sea, etc.) have been analyzed based on the material collected by the author in the Russian villages of the Republic of Moldova with a compact settlement of Lipovans, as well as from works presented in two existing collections. The Lipovans are not only a special confessional community, but also bearers of traditional Russian culture, which attracts the attention of researchers to a lesser extent and is less studied. The ontological constants, one of which is space, perform the most important orientation function for human existence. As the analysis has shown, the determining factor in understanding space in folklore is the attitude of a person to it: space can be mastered and undeveloped, structured and unstructured, closed and boundless, potentially dangerous or controlled by humans. The space in folklore texts does not appear as abstract, it is filled with meanings important for human life, whose specificity is shown in this publication. The symbols of space, as evidenced by the results of the research demonstrated in this article, significantly prevail over the symbols of time in quantitative terms and in terms of their frequency of representation in the considered song lyrics.
