Summary/Abstract: Chekhov's skill of story telling consists of the ability to choose the material, fill a small work with great content, distinguish an essential detail which is important for setting a feature of a character or of an object. In the given work, according to various authors' opinions, we have come to the conclusion that it would be more correct to define artistic detail as "a microelement of artistic system". The type of artistic detail is characterized not only by author's individuality, their view of the world, but also by their language or the structure of their summaries. Specific works dedicated to artistic detail almost cannot be found in the Chekhov's writings. As a rule, it is dedicated very little space in the works from the author's poetics. Based on such works, we can single out portrayal, landscape, subject and psychological types of details. Still, in order to discover a new sense in a piece of writing, it is necessary, within each type of detail, to create its additional classification and show its functions.
