The motivations of students towards learning German as a foreign language

Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the motivation of students towards learning German as a foreign language. The first part of the article is devoted to the problem arising from taking up second language learning at a relatively late stage of education and the consequences it leads to. Special emphasis has been put on the consequences influencing the motivation towards learning German as the third language. A comprehensive analysis of the motivation of pupils, being at the third and the fourth stage of education (based on the former core curriculum), towards learning German as a foreign language is made in the second part of the article. In addition to the motivation evaluation, motivating and demotivating factors affecting German language learning are also discussed.
